Celebrations, Awards and Honors for CKSCP
2018
The Cincinnati-Kharkiv Sister City Partnership (CKSCP) has won a national award from Sister Cities International for its video “Cincinnati to Kharkiv, People to People.” CKSCP earned the 2018 Innovation Award, Professional and Technical Exchange, for a city with 100,000+ population. Locally, the video also has won a Blue Chip award for best documentary. “Cincinnati to Kharkiv, People to People” shows many ways, big and small, Cincinnatians assist their Ukrainian sister city as it navigates its unprecedented transition from communism to democracy and free enterprise and from being in the Ukrainian republic of the Soviet Union to being part of the newly independent country of Ukraine. Over nearly 30 years, Cincinnatians have played a significant role in Kharkiv’s transition.

2001
In September, 23 Community Connections host families travel to Kharkiv as guests of their former guests. On September 11, their celebration of the official opening of the American Center in Kharkiv was tempered by the simultaneous events in the U.S. The outpouring of love and care from the Kharkivites for the visiting Cincinnatians after the tragedy of September 11 further proved the close relationship between Cincinnati and Kharkiv.
2000
On June 22, 165 friends of CKSCP gathered to celebrate ten years of friendship between Cincinnati and Kharkiv. Artwork reflecting the sister city relationship was on display before the dinner. A vice mayor of Kharkiv, Volodymyr Kiyko, and Roxanne Qualls, who was then Mayor of Cincinnati, contributed opening comments. Everyone enjoyed a Ukrainian-style meal. A local puppet team presented a collage of memories and stories to entertain the gathering.
